Temple Emanu-El is filled with individuals who have a vast array of interests and talents. Connect with other congregants who share your same interests or hobbies. We are very excited to announce our new AffiniTE Groups Program! This program will provide members with a website or app which they can use to chat, meet, share, create, and attend events for which they all share an affinity.

Introducing Slack. Some of you may already be familiar with Slack and are using it in the workplace. For others it will be brand new.
What is Slack?
Slack is a platform or program used to connect people much as Facebook does. Using either an app or website, you can use your phone or computer to access Slack. We chose this platform to host our AffiniTE program because it is fairly simple and straightforward to use. Slack uses “channels” which are actually groups under our Temple Emanu-El Slack account. Within channels, you can send messages, pictures, and videos as well as create events within your group.
Step 1 - Create a Slack account. Slack will never ask you for anything more than a user name and password.
-
Visit slack.com/get-started.
-
Click Sign in to Slack.
-
Enter your email address, then click Continue with email.
-
Check your email for a six-digit confirmation code, then enter your code in the Get Started page.
Step 2 - Once you have created an account then sign into TE account using this link HERE
When signing in for the first time or on a new device, Slack may ask you for your workspace URL. If so, copy and paste this URL teatl.slack.com
In Slack, communication happens in channels. A channel is a single place for individuals to share messages, pictures, or videos. You can also create events. If you belong to multiple groups (and we hope you will) please remember to double check what channel/group you are in when posting.
If you do not see a channel or group on your page then first make sure you see the TE logo at the top to make sure you are in the correct account. If not use the link in Step 2 to get to the correct account
If you are in the TE account and still do not see the channels then on a computer click the three dots.
Look for the word “more” and then “channel browser”. Once you click on this word you should be able to see all TE’s channels (groups).
You can send messages and files, save messages and files to bookmark them, pin important messages to conversations, and mention other people to get their attention.
Make it work for you. Notifications in Slack keep you informed. Whether you are home or out and about use these steps to customize your app or computer settings to make them fit your needs. You can turn on and off notifications to best meet your needs. Slack help HERE
Connecting Google Calendar to Slack helps you stay organized and up to date with notifications, event reminders and more. Just add the Google app. Slack help HERE
