Hebrew language acquisition is a core component of Jewish identity in the 21st century. Temple Emanu-El believes that we learn Hebrew not only to participate in prayer and study but also to relate to Jews around the world.
Resources for Students
Similar to the practice of martial arts, which signifies the progression of skill by different color belts, our Hebrew Skills program is divided by color allowing learners to engage at a pace most suitable to each student. From novice to proficient to advanced, students are encouraged to work and practice in the way that best fits their needs. And, like martial arts, there isn’t a “finish line,” just the next step in deepening, internalizing, and strengthening of skills.
The resources below are designed to help our learners begin to master liturgical Hebrew at their level. As you practice, we invite you to begin at the learner’s speed and work your way towards reciting the words at the pace you will experience during our services.
