Sheila Purdin began her career in early education over 25 years ago in her native Seattle, WA. She joined Schiff Preschool of Temple Emanu-El in 2012. She is an active member of the Jewish Early Childhood Council of Atlanta, having served as co-chair and chairing the Kallah planning committee, and is currently the VP of Marketing for Early Childhood Educators of Reform Judaism. She participated in the URJ Pursuing Excellence in Your Early Childhood Center Community of Practice. She is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University and Kendall College. She lives in Roswell with her dog Lulu, and has two adult children, that are pretty fantastic.
Rachel Miller has been part of the Schiff Preschool family for almost ten years. Before she came the Assistant to the Director, she was a classroom teacher. Rachel looks forward to her daily conversations with the children – they say the funniest things! When she is not at Schiff, she enjoys reading, writing, nail art, and watching science fiction television.
Kiana Hicksonbottom is originally from Los Angeles, California. She made her big move to Georgia in January 2015. Kiana has a BA in Psychology from California State University Los Angeles. She is the founding teacher of Schiff’s infant program and loves sharing her day with “her babies!” In her free time, Kiana enjoys all things creative, including clothing design and tie-dye, and she is an exceptional organizer.
Stacy Fialkow was born in Atlanta, GA. After growing up in Jacksonville, FL she attended the University of Georgia where she received her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education followed by a M.Ed from Mercer University in Atlanta. Before coming to Schiff Preschool, she taught pre-k, three year-olds, kindergarten, pre-k in the Florida public school system, and at a local day school. Stacy has lived in the Sandy Springs area for the last 29 years. She has one son who is a senior in college. In her free time, Stacy loves all kinds of sports especially UGA Football and attends all home football games. She enjoys playing board games with her family and reading.
A native of Israel, Dganit Shlomian, moved to Atlanta in 2001. She served two years in the Israeli Air Force. Dganit has a great passion for teaching young children. She finds joy in watching them learn and grow. Dganit loves infusing her creative spirit into her work at Schiff. When she is not at Schiff, she enjoys participating in her children’s activities, along with her husband, playing volleyball, and long distance walking with friends.
Joanne Grabia grew up in Savannah, GA, and at Tybee Island. She attended Oglethorpe and GA State University. This is Joanne’s twenty third year at Schiff! She currently lives in Johns Creek, is happily married and has two adult sons. Joanne loves to cook, garden, and read. In addition to teaching, Joanne always wanted to be a singer, like Barbra Streisand! She considers herself lucky, as she gets to sing daily with her students!
Lisa Skyer is a native New Yorker who grew up in Rockland County. She attended the State University of New York at Albany, receiving a BA in Economics. Lisa has lived in Atlanta for twenty three years, though she is still a die-hard Yankee fan. Lisa lives in Johns Creek with her husband and three kids. Lisa has been working in Reform Jewish early education for ten years, also works in real estate, and teaches religious school.
Lisa Witmer was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. She has been in Atlanta since 2003, after graduating from Asbury with a BS in Elementary Ed. She has taught GA pre-k and private kindergarten, three year-olds, and Summer Camp at Schiff. Teaching has always been her passion and loves being a part of the warm and welcoming team at Schiff. Lisa loves football, especially the Baltimore Ravens. She also enjoys tutoring, reading, and running with her dog.
Randi Siegel is in her tenth year at Schiff Preschool. She lives in Dunwoody with her husband Elliot and two kids, Justin (15) and Jessica (13). Both of her children attended Schiff Preschool, where she became very involved with Schiff Preschool Parents Group (SPPG) and Temple Emanu-El. Randi has taught two year-olds for eight years and three year-olds for one year. Randi enjoys teaching with the best group of kids! When not at Schiff, you will find her playing tennis, volunteering, and very involved with her children’s activities.
Joy Rosa has been working with children for the past forty years. She attended Buffalo State College, receiving a BA in Elementary Education. Joy is energetic, creative, warm, and loving. She has been part of the Schiff family for since the school began, twenty three years ago, and also teaches at Temple Emanu-El’s Diamond Family Religious School. Joy’s students think she lives at Schiff! In her spare time, Joy enjoys spending time with her son, as well as reading and gardening.
Ellen Schoener has been at Schiff Preschool for seventeen years (is that possible?!) teaching her first loves: dance and yoga. Her interests have always been dance, education, and psychology, having an MA in Dance/Movement Therapy. Schiff has offered her the opportunity to take on many roles, including classroom teacher in every age group and Learning Resource Specialist. Schiff has also given her the joy of getting to know and love many wonderful children and their families. Outside of Schiff, Ellen cooks, reads, and spends time with her husband, two big dogs, and her absolutely amazing granddaughter.
Amy Peskin has been teaching preschool since the early 1990s. She is proud to be a member of the Schiff Preschool family as the Music Specialist, Judaics teacher, and Shabbat Sing Song Leader. Movin’ and groovin’ to music is Amy’s passion! After growing up in both New Jersey and Louisiana, Amy moved to the great city of Atlanta, over twenty five years ago. She enjoys quilting, watching LSU football, and gardening in her free time.
